    Help

Wednesday, December 26, 2007, 10:18 AM MST [General]

To Experienced Users - Is there a way to post a blog entry so it appears after recent posts? I maintain a log of my fishing outings, and I like this site and would like to copy my log entries to my blog here, but they took place in the past, and I don't want them to appear as current postings if I can avoid. The Help FAQ's don't answer this question. In fact, the Help information is rather minimal as best as I can tell.

    Christmas

Tuesday, December 25, 2007, 09:10 PM MST [General]

With 6 inches of fresh snow here in Denver on Christmas Day, my thoughts have turned to tying flies for the 2008 season. So far I've completed 30 beadhead hares ears (my go to nymph throughout the season), 12 copper johns, 15 emerald caddis pupa, 10 yellow caddis pupa, 20 bright green caddis pupa, and 15 glassbead BWO nymphs. Today I made five beadhead WD40's on size 20 scud hooks. I'll make 5 more of these, 10 beadhead RS2's size 20, and 10 olive/brown bead midge larva imitations. This should put me in good shape with nymphs since I already have adequate inventory of beadhead pheasant tails, prince nymphs, and scuds.

Upon completion of nymphs, I will turn to dry fly tying.

    Last Fishing Outing of 2007

    Waterton Canyon

On the first day after daylight savings time ended, Jane and I biked up Waterton Canyon to the Rattlesnake picnic pavilion. I changed into my waders and rigged up and walked down the road a bit then fished back up the river quite a bit beyond Rattlesnake. It was a gorgeous day with the high temperature touching the low 70's. There were many bikers and hikers taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather. I fished a Letort hopper and beadhead hares ear the entire time. There was a sparse hatch of BWO's, but not enough to bring more than a rare rise, so I stuck with the dry dropper set up. I caught 9 trout altogether, two were nice rainbows. I had another nice fish rise and inspect my hopper in a juicy run. I tried numerous casts, but couldn't interest any further. I shifted and tried some different runs, but then tossed another drift where I'd seen the rainbow. This time it rose and took the hopper, but when I set the hook, I only hooked momentarily.

In another instance, I cast upstream along the left bank near where I began. The hopper twitched in some crazy currents and then disappeared. I set the hook and instantly snapped off the dropper and the hopper. This felt like a fish that was larger than the others that I landed over the remainder of the day.

Hello everyone. I'm new to this experience and anxious to understand what it is all about.
