Small Stream Tactics

Hello Bass_Bug & Corgi! Bass_Bug set this group up and I think it could be interesting, especially as a number of different kinds of water can be discussed. I'm starting off with small streams (8-15')becasue I've become quite fond of the little native brookies that often hang out in them. The most important thing to know about these streams is that while the brookies and even the browns will come eargerly to a fly, both dry and nymph because they don't see all that much food on a regular basis, they will spook very easily. It's a rare spot that I fish standing up or even bent over. Ninty percent of the time I'm fishing up stream, approaching a promising spot at a glacial pace, and then easing down on my knees, usually followed by a few minutes of just watching and waiting for things to calm down. In truth, it's a very meditative sort of fishing. |
