03/02/2008 - SE Indiana, Temp 38, Water Temp 38, 12 inch Brown on a size 10 Hellgrammite, cabin fever strikes, can not wait to fish when I don't have to break the ice out of my guides every other cast.
12-29-07 Spoke to soon, Ice in the guides and snow in the air . Good day of fishing even with numb fingers.
Encountered a unique situation that I would appreciate other view points on how it could have been better handled. Two bank fishing spin fishermen were working up the river when they passed me by and managed to hook into a nice 14 inch Brown trout that they landed and then threw on the bank. I politely pointed out to these two rather large gentlemen that the regs for the river are that the creel limit for the river was 5 fish of which only one could be a Brown trout and that the Brown trout had to be a minimum of 18 inches in length. Their non-verbal hand gesture indicated that the regs did not apply to them. What would you have done differently? This river receives a fair amount of pressure and if the regs are not followed there will be no resource to regulate.

No ice in the guides, yet! Days are getting colder with highs of 40 nights in the 20's but fishing hasn't slowed to much. looking forward to getting in at least one more day of fishing before the end of the year and the cold temps (below freezing) start to sink in. On the river I fish (a tailwater) everyone is either going very small - size 20 or smaller or very large with white and pink streamers. Caught this 16 inch Brown on a size 20 Yarn Rainbow Egg Fly. 6 Days later caught two of his family on the same fly before switching to my version of Barr's size 18 BH PMD emerger.

Great Opportunity to meet vendors, guides, fly tyers, rod makers at the 1st annual Indiana Fly Fishing Show January 5th at the Indiana State Fair Grounds. Go to www.freewebs.com/reelwomen/indianaflyfishingshow.htm for more information. I had the opportunity to meet a few of the members of the Reel Women / Reel Men of Indianapolis fly fishing club that is brining this first ever show to Indiana yesterday while I was out fly fishing and they are some great people who love the sport and the outdoors.
The weather has been perfect for winter fishing, temperatures in the 40's and water temps to match. in the last 3 days of fishing I have been fortunate enough to bring a few Browns to the net ranging from 10" to 18"
