    Looking forward to new year

    Friday, January 11, 2008, 09:10 AM [General]

Santa was good to me on Christmas. My wife got me a Regal Vise and a good selection of tools.

My daughters got me some new Fly Fishing books for my library.

I am starting a beginers fly tying class on Tuesday 1/15/2008 with MVFF our local fly fishing club.

With the nice weather we beeen having lately, I even had a chance to get out and fish a little. Who would of thought fishing in Ohio in January?

With the new books to read, and learning to tie flys, I am sure winter will go quickly, and spring will be back soon.

I do not usual make new year resolutions, but this year I am going to make and devote more time to fly fishing.

I hope every one had a good holiday, and a great year coming up.

    Signed up for tying classes

    Tuesday, December 11, 2007, 12:50 PM [General]

I just joined our local fly fishing class and signed up for there begining fly tying classes. As part of taking this class i am researching which vise I would like to use or buy.

I currently own a Griffin 2A, and I am looking at a HMH Spartain. I would welcome any comments on these two vises or any other recomendations you may want to make.

I have visited one open tie night with the club, and realy enjoyed it. I'm sure this will be somthing I will do for a long time, so I do not mind investing in qaulity tools up front.

     Thanks

    Todd

    Hey Todd,

Hope Santa took care of ya and got you going on tying. I have been teaching my six year old daughter how to tie for the past two week's. a fly a day and if we miss a day she hounds me to make'm up, she's going to have a huge fly box by the time spring hit's!!!! (at this rate anyway)

Todd, were you able to hook up with MVFF, I know their entry level tying class starts soon? I am still considering taking their advance class that starts on the 17th.

    Hey Todd,
A fellow Mad Man here, I fish up around west Liberty mostly (I did fish Urbana in October,if you go to the Mad Men web site You can see Tom Allen with a nice brown, I took the picture).
There's nothing like Making a fly and going out and catching a fish on it, its part of the attraction for me. tying is not as difficult as it might seem. I recommend spending as much as you can afford on a Vice!!! working on a fly for hour's only to have it slip out of the vice at the finish will drive you insane(the fly will never be the same again)I like a pedestal instead of a clamp on (you can put a pedestal on any table not true with the clamp on)after that a few hooks, feathers and fur and you rolling your own. Here is a site that might help www.flyanglersonline.com
