    New Years stuff

i often wonder sometimes if people actually read these blogs or if we just type them out to sort out things in our heads.  I am hoping both!

Well i have my plane tickets for Vancouver Island, I leave the second last Saturday of May and I am gone for a week.  I am really excited about this as I will be there during one of the big Steelhead runs.  Good thing my friend I am staying with is a professional guide so all things will be good.  This will also give me chance to familiarize myself with heavier Spey rods as I only use 6 to 7 wts here.  In my opinion you really don't need anything too big for great lake steelheading as the rivers are not that big nor do they have really heavy flows.

Aside from British Columbia I will be heading to Michigan to fish the PM at the end of Feb. to fish the PM.  I have a two friends that are down from Germany who are dying to catch a Great Lake Steelhead on the fly.  I always seem to have luck there so I hope they will to.  To be honest with you any excuse to fish the PM is good by me.

Another thing I did was get rid of my center pin rods and reels.  As I like to catch fish but I find the "pin" almost too easy.  I am not slagging it or anything as it really taught me about presentation but I think I will stick with the fly and for me this will bring the greatest reward.  Mind you I will still ask the the people using them about depth and colour as for the most part those guys really know their stuff!

Well I hope to see some of you on the river.  Tomorrow I may head out to Erindale Park with my Spey and have some fun.  I will probably use my Beulah 8/9 Switch line on my 6/7 spey because the shorter head makes it easy to make shorter casts.....

    Wish me luck!!!!

    2007 and on to 2008

Wednesday, January 2, 2008, 08:10 PM EST [General]

Well what can I say...fall of 2007 was a bust!  I hooked a few steelies and lost them all.  The last one was Monday the 31st.  I hooked a beauty with a Hairs Ear Nymph and lost it after a short battle.  The fish spat the hook and wished me a Happy New Year.

Now that 2008 is upon us I plan on making a few trips to the PM in Michigan starting the last week of Feb. , flying to  Vancouver Island in May and hopefully back to Newfoundland late July. Mind you I will have also have to complete some projects around the house so my wife will allow these adventures.

I may be doing some fishing shows this year to help shops sell the products I am pro-staffing.  I really enjoy this kind of stuff.  Not for the selling but having the opportunity to talk fishing with other poeple.

Well I hope to meet some of you on the river and I also hope to post a pic of my first Steelie of 2008.  That is of course if don't lose it!

Good Evening Michael and thanks for checking back. I went out New's Year eve and spent about three hours on the Rogue River here in west Michingan. I used egg patterns in flesh, little black stone nymphs and rock worms. Caught two small steelies on the black stones, but never had a great deal of action on the others. How's the Canadian fishing?

Thanks. I will try tying some weevil patterns this weekend. I have been using rock worms tied with green caddis and olive hare's ear this past week with some interest.
