American Angler, the magazine of fly fishing and fly tying - Home

About Me I work for American Angler, Fly Tyer and Gray's Sporting Journal where I sell the heck out of some ads (or try to anyway) and write here and there. I go home each night to my beautiful wife and try to fish and tie as much as I can. Not a bad life, really.
Music Ray Charles, Billy Ray Cyrus, Ray LaMontagne, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Sugar Ray, Collin Raye, Ray Ray and the Ray-Ray's, Ray Ray and the Ray-Ray's Cover Band (aka Aerosmith) If I need to rock out, I pop in some Led Zeppelin, AC/DC ("Thunderstruck" immediately causes my hair to grow 18" and become oily) or ZZ Top.
Movies Tombstone, Shawshank Redemption, Kung Pow! Enter The Fist, A River Runs Through It, Grumpy/Grumpier Old Men, Anything with Jim Carrey, Billy Madison, Passion of the Christ, Girly Movies w/my wife, all of the Rocky movies (even V), Legends of the Fall, Citizen Kane, The Godfather Trilogy, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.... pretty much anything with a great storyline, a tale of an underdog, or a great adventure.
TV Since my wife and I have bunny-ears (until the filthy government ends analog TV in 2009), we watch The Office and Lost primarily. We are pretty loyal to American Idol when it's in season and find ourselves watching more and more PBS... Aww yeah!
Books Ta Biblia, Advanced Fly Fishing Techniques by Lefty Kreh, The Dog Who Lost His Way by Chrissy Taylor, Webster's Unabridged Dictionary (the one with cuss words), The View From Rat Lake by John Gierach, The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis
Likes Lots of things. But most of all, pie.
Dislikes People in general, but more specifically: Children, people with abnormally short arms (sorry Chad), babies who look like aliens, people who stare at the top of your head when speaking to you, fools with pencil-thin mustaches, anyone who use the word "whatever", people who mix ketchup and mustard together then say they don't like Heinz 57, anyone with a barrel-chest, and Hillary Clinton (who falls into almost all of the aforementioned categories).
Hobbies Woodworking, woodturning, fly fishing for anything that swims, fly tying, eating, running, lifting (don't do that enough), writing, photography (terrible at it), and reading. I used to hoop it up a lot, but I guess that chapter is finished.
    Vices Mainly just crack-cocaine.
Virtues I don't want to say because I'm modest.
Heroes Jesus pretty much changed the world. My parents and my wife are a big inspiration and a good example to me. I guess I'd also have to lump in the Macho Man, Randy Savage.

Did you get a length? I know the freshwater fish are a bit fatter but i can give you a close lb guess if you have the length.

a 40" fish on fly is the holy grail up here...only done it twice in my life. Bigger is possible but not easy as they start feeding with their nose more than eyes when they get big.

Send me the picture or let me know when you post on your page.

That's a nice fish. Congrats. Try throwing poppers at them...up here, they work great.

Save your $ and buy the ticket, you won't regret it. See what airfare will cost and start saving a few bucks a week and before you know it, you'll be up here and tied into a slob.

Thanks for the comments on Lucy, I've meant to post up a few more but haven't found the time with the closings and just getting back from WY.

Boston is only 40 minutes away from the dock...it's an easy trip at 2:30 am!

Come up and fish with me next June so we can build up your photo album with some good sized stripers. Second week in June has been a proven killer. Invitation is for real, not just blowing smoke. If you put in your time and work hard, a 20lb fish on fly is definitely obtainable.
