    tyer for hire

I went down to Charlies Flybox yesterday to see what he thought of my tying skills. My weakest point it seem is that I jump around when I tie. I can't get myself to tie more than four or five of a pattern before I get bored and jump to something else. Charlie said he wanted to see a dozen of one pattern and they have to be identical. What a test for someone who dabbles about in his tying materials!

I'd like to think that my fly kit is fairly comprehensive, but it seems that whenever I really look I find big "holes" in my material list. maybe the procurement of  new materials is a never ending quest. So I'm forced to find a pattern that I have enough materials to tie a dozen flies exactly the same! I will be tying the "dozen" in a pattern that I would normally fish in case I get rejected I will at least have some flies for this summers fishing.

I though I might post some pics of my flybench just for the hell of it.

    More Black Canyon

Thursday, May 7, 2009, 08:14 AM MST [General]

I have a trip into the Black Canyon of the Gunnison River in southwest Colorado around the 4th  of July. It's seems that I need to be filling some spots in my fly boxes that I've over looked for to long.

Now, I don't want to sound like I'm complaining abut the task ahead, I find tying a great place to revisit My streams and Ponds as I sit and lash bits of fur and tinsel to hooks. Tying for me is like a magical transporter that can put me back in Gods country in an instant.

My previous two trips into the Canyon were an awe inspiring experience. Between the ever changing scenery and the monster trout that live in the bottom of that ancient primordial canyon, there is never a boring or dull moment. It would seem that for me, when ever I go to the Wild places, my soul grows and gets refreshed.

I'm not sure who is going to read these things or If any one is going to, but I'm just going to keep putting "things" out here for now.
