    Corgivet..and I have never cooked a fish in my life...I am ashamed to admit I never ordered it out in a restaurant..either...other than tuna from a can, I am pretty hopeless..

     

    I want to start eating fish but don;t know whwre to start and with what kind...suggestions...??

    I am the same, sort of. I have fished all my life but have never liked the taste of fish. I used to eat tuna from a can, but I gave up on that about ten years ago, maybe more. I don't know if it's my imagination or what, but the quality of canned tuna has gone down to where even the better grades taste "fishy".

    Maybe it's largely a geographic thing, but I grew up eating fish. Mostly because my folks owned a bait and tackle store on a huge lake and many a fisherman dropped their catch off at the store for us on their way home. So, I've had it just about any way you can imagine. Kinda like ole Bubba Gump his shrimp-any-way-you-want-it. (although I do prefer shrimp to fish).

    It really comes down to individual taste preferences - do you prefer things fried or broiled? Grilled? And then there's the taste of the fish - range from really delicate and mild to very, very fishy.

    The only kind I just won't eat is catfish, and that's just because they're bottom-feeders and I think they're nasty.

    I prefer most foods cooked any way but fried, for health reasons, but there's nothing like some good fresh bream or crappie fried up on a creek bank. But I doubt you guys fish for those, do you?

    Anyway, to fry them up, you'll probably want to filet the bigger ones, but you can just clean and cook the smaller ones. Wash them, salt n pepper, dip in flour, drop in hot grease until they float up.

    Or, try broiling them with a little lemon and butter. Trout is great that way. Orange Roughy too. Salmon and tuna and shark are great on the grill.

    I'm going to stop now because I can't believe I'm telling a bunch of fisher-people how to cook fish!

    When my wife and I get hungry for fresh trout, we will take two trout, clean them carefully, wrap them in reynolds wrap with a pad of butter, salt and pepper, and then put them on a charcoal grill. When they are done, you can pull the bones right out of the meat. Oh, is it gooooood!

    I'm like gadabout..don;t want anything too fishy..and fried as Amy says is out for health reasons..would kind of negate the omega fatty acids thing fish has going..

    Something grilled would be worth a whirl..
    I used to catch lots of bream and crappie in SC ..but not here..so it would have to be trout ..or something store bought..

    Bream and crappie, sure I fish for them quite a bit. We call 'em bluegills here of course. And the fishing is even more fun when I know I don't have to clean them at the end of the trip. LOL.

    Truthfully, I wish I did like to eat fish but it just wasn't meant to be. No seafood of any kind for me, including shrimp, lobster, etc.

    Note to the administrators - it sure would be handy if people's screen names appeared under the avatars.
